One can speak of Cristian Gheorghiță with undisguised admiration while contemplating his works, in which painting is simultaneously construction and sentiment.
Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Painting from the "George Enescu" National University of Arts in Iași, Cristian Gheorghiță possesses the professional expertise required to align the architecture of forms with the substance of pictorial construction. This results in a natural—and seemingly effortless—subordination of color that reveals a deep and powerful lyricism.
Oscillating between the often oneiric figurativism of his portraits and an ambiguous figurativism—frequently dissolved into abstract structures on the verge of recognizability—Cristian Gheorghiță’s painting demonstrates a complete mastery of artistic mediums. Without dwelling excessively on details, he successfully individualizes his characters by emphasizing certain structural components of the image. These components are sometimes highly diversified and do not necessarily relate to the figure itself, but rather to the composition as a whole: background, linear structures, light effects, and so forth.
The chromatic vigor found in some of his compositions finds a natural extension in a certain consonant sobriety within his portraits and self-portraits, where the artist operates with a refined, expressive-chromatic interiorization of faces. A certain rigidity of the figures also contributes to this impression of sobriety, highlighted by a distilled subtlety in the relationships between tones. The artist completely abandons this restraint in the case of large-scale compositional representations, which are animated by luxuriant plastic-chromatic structures, often vibrated to the point of paroxysm.
Through his works, Cristian Gheorghiță reveals himself to be a sensitive interpreter of form and plastic structures, oscillating between the fantastic dreamworld and the vigor of architectural plastic constructions. There is no doubt that, beyond a sometimes comfortable reading of the figurative, Cristian Gheorghiță pleasantly surprises us with his tireless exploration, originally synthesized into complex, synthetic, and non-descriptive plastic constructions.
